In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

A Reminder

A reminder to us all that we must find ways to end this war and the cycle of violence. Over 600,000 Iraqis have died because of the war our tax dollars paid for. As I write letters and call my elected representatives and put signs on my lawn (and vote), I imagine the Iraqis free of the United States. I imagine them healthy, prospering, and working for their greater good. I imagine this for all of us. I hope soon that this vision exists in more places than in our imaginations.

Blessed be.

Or as the Old Mermaids would say, "Blessed sea." 1 comments

Thanks for this. I think you've got the right idea. It's easy to pray for our own, but not so much for a people and a culture who feel so far removed. I appreciate the perspective and will find a way to include Iraq in my Samhain this year.
