In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Midnight at the OMS

Yes, I believe we can create Old Mermaid Sanctuaries (OMS) wherever we go. That's what I'm doing. Today we took a hike, worked on a writing project together, and got the house in order again. I also got caught up on the news. Exhausting, that. I hope everyone has called or written their congress people about torture. The Republicans caved. (Don't you sometimes wonder why McCain keeps carrying the prez's water?)

Anyway, now I can't sleep. So I'm making more pics. You know how I get.

A novice, Kim??? I don't think of you as a novice but as the very essence of a gorgeous and fully professed mermaid sister, perhaps an abbess or mermaid superior. BB, Cate

Ahhh, but if I'm always a novice, then I always have beginner's mind. But I enjoyed your description anyway.

These mermaids are just too wonderful, Kim -- how exciting to bring them home with you. At the moment I am on a pilgrimage along the coast of California. I found many wonderful mermaids in Seal Beach and will be looking today in Santa Cruz. But I've found none like these. Perhaps it takes a desert to birth an Old Mermaid.

Have fun in CA, Joanna! I've never seen any like these mermaids either. The Old Sea gives up many fine mysteries.
