In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Oracle

I go to Joanna Powell Colbert's beautiful and inspiring blog Gaian Tarot Artist's Journal frequently—she was one of the artists for our Daughters of Nyx magazine—but it is just tonight (or this morning, actually, 4:00 a.m.) that I discovered her "oracle." You might want to try it out. I asked a couple different questions relating to the same topic and got the same resolution: a sacred retreat. The Death card showed up twice, too. Seems to be everywhere.

Thanks, Joanna. 5 comments

Thanks for this info, Kim. My daughter (who lives in Denver) is a believer of pagan spirituality, so I sent Joanna Colbert's blog info on to her. I'm sure she'll enjoy it. (I enjoyed it, too.)

Still up at 4:00 a.m.? Well, I actually slept through the night. I feel rested and full of it this morning. Vickie

Thanks ofr the card link--life way out of balance. Linda is dying and I am whining about writing...

Glad to be of service, Vickie! I hope your daughter has fun with it.

Pam, dear, life goes on. That old cliche is really true. When we got the call about our friend Sheila suddenly dying, we were horrified. And then we finished changing the filter in the air purifier. I keep writing about Linda because it makes me feel better but also because I've gotten so many e-mails from people who have gone through the same thing with parents, friends, other family members. We have all been through it—or will go through it. In the last year or more you've been through it twice. Life and death, eh? So we don't beat ourselves up for continuing on. Hope this doesn't sound preachy. I'm on my way out to Linda's now. And then I'm going to figure out how to have my "sacred retreat" even if I don't really go anywhere.

Kim, I love Joanna's site, used to visit often and thank you for reminding me to go again. This morning my cards were "The Moon", "The High Priestess" and Awakening", certainly food for thought there . BB, Cate

Glad you found the oracle, Kim, and that it is nourishing for you . . . just like your words are nourishing for me. Thank you. Enjoy your sacred retreat.
