In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Life Has Not Forgotten You

"You mustn't be frightened
If a sadness
Rises in front of you,
Larger than any you have ever seen;
If an anxiety, like light and cloud shadows,
Moves over your hands and everything you do.
You must realize that something is happening to you,
That life has not forgotten you,
That it holds you in its hand
And will not let you fall."

—Rainer Maria Rilke

Ah! One of my all time favorite quotes. I forget where I found it, but I like the beginning part of it, too:

“How should we be able to forget those ancient myths that are at the beginning of all peoples, the myths about dragons that at the last moment turn into princesses; perhaps all the dragons of our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us once beautiful and brave. Perhaps everything terrible is in its deepest being something helpless that wants help from us. So you must not be frightened, if a sadness rises up before you larger than any you have ever seen; if a restiveness, like light and cloud-shadows, passes over your hands and over all you do. You must think that something is happening with you, that life has not forgotten you, that it holds you in its hand, and it will not let you fall...”

He's so lovely, Rilke. He comforts me, always. Thanks for making me think of this today, and thank you also for the kind link to Theriomorph. What a pleasure to discover both you and Mario in this aether!

Oh that's GREAT! I didn't know the beginning of that quote. Even better.

Right back atcha, by the way, re. finding each other. As my friend Kevin reminded me not so long ago, this is a place we can meet members of our tribe, and even though the hugs have to be virtual, it is still pretty amazing.
