In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Finally?

I thought the tide was turning last year sometime, but then nothing much changed. Maybe this time it really really truly really truly is turning. I'm ecstatic with the Supreme Court decision regarding Bush and Guantanamo. According to MSNBC, "The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that President Bush overstepped his authority in creating military war crimes trials for Guantanamo Bay detainees, a rebuke to the administration and its aggressive anti-terror policies. Justice John Paul Stevens wrote the opinion, which said the proposed trials were illegal under U.S. law and the Geneva Convention. The case, one of the most significant involving presidential war powers cases since World War II, was brought by Guantanamo prisoner Salim Ahmed Hamdan, who was a driver for Osama bin Laden in Afghanistan."

Halle-freaking-lujah.

But will Bush listen? 2 comments

Hi Kim,

Yes. Great news, finally. The Supreme Court of the land honoring the 3 branches of government; a system set up by the founding fathers, and roughed up like nobody's business by Bush and his cronies.

I love that the pompous ass (with some integrity) Justice John Roberts had to recuse himself, since he'd already voted with the government in an earlier opinion. Too bad.

Intersting to note: Justice Thomas wrote a 50 PAGE rebuttal opinion on why the other justices are putting all our lives at stake by questioning the supreme diety, oops I mean authority, of the President and the military machine. About how the ourt is overstepping it's bounds...huh???

How much rationalizing can you do to try to deny the truth? Apparently 50 pages worth.

I still don't understand how he was ever confirmed, anyway. Why wasn't he prosecuted after that Anita Hill incident? Questions and more questions.

Sorry for the rant.

Your political savvy is noted and appreciated.

May Justice Kennedy live a very long and healthy life.

Love and Hugs,
Alyce

Rant on, my dear! I am the "furious spinner" after all. Ranting used to be my bread and butter. Now I rant periodically instead of incessantly. But I always enjoy passion. It's good to be fired up. Good to be downright furious. Wow. I'll see if I can stomach reading the rebuttal. I didn't know Justice Thomas actually ever had a real opinion about anything. Bleck, bleck, bleck.

Yes, may Justice Kennedy live long and then maybe we'll all prosper.

Love & hugs right back atcha.
