In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Giving the Finger

Or taking one. The mayor of Las Vegas recently suggested slicing off thumbs of graffiti vandals. Or artists. Whichever is your particular take on graffiti. (I don't think tagging another piece of art is artistic, seems like vandalism to me, but what do I know. I have seen some very cool graffiti art in other places.) In any case, I was reading the Guardian and saw this headline: Mayor: Sever Thumbs of Graffiti Artists. I figured when I clicked on it it would take me to some Middle-Eastern country. (Sorry, but those are the only countries I know off where they cut off body parts as punishment.) Imagine my surprise to find out it was the Las Vegas mayor!

What a country.

I have to admit I got a chuckle out of it. Not because I think he's right. Just because he's so silly. Like graffiti is our biggest worry. 1 comments

Mayor Goodman is an attorney. He sucessfully defended the notorious mobster Anthony Spilatro, until Anthony was murdered and buried in a cornfiel in the midwest. Goodman doesn't have much class, but he makes up for it in martinis and controversy. They just spent a bundle on oversized statues of desert life for a freeway interchange. He got pissed 'cause someone came along and tagged it. I didn't like it either, but I think cutting off the little finger is enough, certainly not a thumb! ;-)
