In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Endings

The doctor has told Linda she has only a few days or a few weeks to live, depending upon whether they can get her calcemia under control. (As I understand it—and I may not understand it well—as the cancer eats the bones, it releases calcium into the blood stream, which is too much for the organs to handle.) So I'm going to go be with my friend. I'll be back when I'm back.

Thank you both so much. And thanks to all of you who have written to me about Linda. She gets a kick out of it. I'll say something like, "I heard from so-and-so from Timbukto and she or he is wishing you the best," and she'll say, "Really? Imagine that."
