In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Defiance

We just watched the doc Howard Zinn: You Can’t Be Neutral on a Moving Train. As I’ve said here before, I love that man. He spoke the truth during the Vietnam War, he speaks the truth today. The movie had clips of government officials justifying “collateral damage” with words we’re hearing nearly daily about the Iraq War. While talking about Vietnam casualties, Hubert Humphrey said “your government” does not kill women and children, “your government” does not bomb cities: women and children and other innocents are put in harm’s way by the enemy. Uh-huh. Sound familiar? Zinn said that having hope in the face of oppression and living as you believe people should live are acts of defiance. I like that. I shall endeavor to stop thinking of hope as a curse. It is an act of revolution, an act of defiance. I’m with you, Howard. 1 comments

In the documentary I especially liked how Zinn seemed like such a happy guy. It was almost like a self help course in happiness, where he was saying: "You want joy? I have the answer. Resist the powers that be."
