In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Apples & Oranges

Today Mario replied to a letter from a student in Colorado who was doing a paper on him for her class, and he told her the titles of a couple of poems he really liked. They are also poems I like, too, so I will link them here (the first two) and I'll add an additional couple of my favorites: "What He Thought" by Heather McHugh, "Snowy Egret" by Bruce Weigl, "When I Was" by Mario Milosevic, and "Wage Peace" by Judyth Hill. (This poem is often attributed to Mary Oliver.) This last one I use as a signature on my emails (which I'm sure I've quoted before in FS). It's by Elsa Gidlow:

You say I am mysterious.
Let me explain myself:
In a land of oranges
I am faithful to apples.
