In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Barbara Boxer is My Hera

Barbara Boxer is my hera, along with her Democratic colleagues in the House who objected to the 2004 Presidential vote. You remember the scene from "Fahrenheit 9/11" when the Dems in the House couldn't get a single senator to stand with them? This time they got Barbara Boxer. She stood alone, but she stood up. Some might say it didn't matter because the vote was overwhelmingly certified anyway, but I think it always matters that we stand up and be counted (literally, in this case). In the CNN article, John Kerry was reported to have said that he wasn't going to join the protest because he couldn't see how irregularities in Ohio would have changed the outcomes of the election. You've missed the point, Mr. Kerry. The point is that the elections should be fair and honest and every vote should be counted whether it changes the outcome or not! And if the voting machine tallies were tampered with, how do you know it wouldn't have changed the outcome? After working on the recount in Washington state, I saw firsthand how the machines couldn't read all the valid ballots—even machines that hadn't been tampered with, presumably. Right on, B. Boxer!
