In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Preparing

Preparing for the journey is half the journey. I think I've heard that somewhere. I'm weepy tonight as I pack. We've only spent one winter away from the Pacific Northwest in 22 years. We are both nesters, so going away for this long is a strain on our natures, initially. And my body is rebelling in all kinds of ways, and I'm just crossing everything I have and trying to have faith that it'll all work out. Outside it is cold and windy and a half moon hangs above it all, waiting for night to put a real shine on her.

This morning, as a wonderful beginning to our trip (and a nice Solstice gift), I received an offer from a publisher to buy my novel, Mercy, Unbound. I'm very pleased, to say the least. It'll come out as a young adult book in 2006. I've now sold two books in less than two months! Didn't it all happen after I said I was considering giving up writing? Trickster energy, I would say.

We're off to California tomorrow, stopping for the night near Arcata.

Enjoy! 0 comments
