In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Soldier Stories

The soldiers coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan are telling their stories. What they have to say is terrible and moving. U.S. Army Reserve Specialist Denver Jones signed up after 9/11. He is home now with devastating injuries he sustained in a humvee accident in Iraq. Yet those injuries aren't considered war related so he doesn't get the same benefits as someone who was shot. He had to fight for a year to get some benefits. This is outrageous—and apparently not unusual. I don't think we should be in Iraq, and I don't believe war is the answer to anything, but I absolutely believe that if this country sends people off to war, they should be compensated. They should have the equipment and armor they need. They should be paid a decent wage. If they are injured, they should be cared for and compensated for life. What's so difficult about that? It's a shame what is happening to our soldiers. When I see those "ribbons" on cars that say, "We support our troops," I want to scream, "I support them, too, because I don't want them to be killed or maimed! I don't want them sent off to war in the first place to a country that hadn't done us any harm! I want the soldiers to have the proper equipment! I don't want a president like Bush who cuts their pay!"

I think I may have already posted Robert J. Acosta's interview, but here it is again, just in case. Here are more stories. 0 comments
