In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Camel Jockeys

My sister Michelle told me about a segment she saw on "Real Sports" on HBO about young boys who are sold or kidnapped into slavery and taken to the United Arab Emirates to be camel jockeys. They're housed in terrible conditions; they're underfed on purpose, beaten, and raped. Most are thrown out into the streets when they get too big to ride the camels where they're picked up for not having the right papers, so then they're put in prison. Most of them are taken when they are so young that later they don't know where they were originally came from or who their families were. When confronted with the horrific treatment of these children, the officials of the United Arab Emirates clucked their tongues and said no one under 100 pounds could ride the camels—and they enforced this order by forbidding any cameras in the stables or racetrack! It's an amazing story. (Normally I wouldn't give much credibility to Bernard Goldberg who was the correspondent for the story. He wrote a book talking about liberal bias in the media, which I think is horse shit—and anyone paying any attention knows it's horse shit. However, he had some pretty convincing video apparently and quite a few sources.)
