In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Why We Cannot Win in Iraq

This article is written by Al Lorentz, a soldier currently deployed in Iraq. He is "an old and seasoned Non-Commissioned Officer with nearly 20 years under my belt." He's says what they've done in Iraq is unconstitutional, but that's not why the United States won't win. The U.S. won't win, he believes, because "we refuse to deal in reality." It's a guerrilla war, and in a guerilla war you never win by killing lots of soldiers. (See Vietnam.) We are the invaders, now the occupiers. They are fighting for their country. He says a lot more that makes sense, and he's getting into trouble for saying it. According to retired lieutenant colonel Karen Kwiatkowski, the military is considering charging him with "making a statement with the intent to promote disloyalty or disaffection toward the U.S. by any member of the Armed forces." He could get 20 years in a military prison if convicted. Wow.

My thanks won't keep you out of prison, Mr. Lorentz, but I offer them anyway. Thanks for speaking out.
