In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Don't Be Discouraged!

Try not to be discouraged. We have it so much better than the people in Iraq. It is our responsibility to stop what is happening to them. We can do it. Stop watching and listening to mainstream news—unless you do it for the entertainment value. (Instead of spending all their energy investigating how Dan Rather screwed up, why don't they INVESTIGATE whether the story is actually TRUE.) Don't believe the polls. Don't be convinced not to vote because your state is already "red." They don't nuthin' fer shure. Talk to everyone you know about registering to vote and then voting. (A friend of mine who is supposed to be politically savvy recently missed our primary election. Know the date you vote: NOVEMBER 2, 2004.) Do you know an American citizen who lives in another country? Bug them. NOW. Americans living abroad could swing the election. If all the unregistered voters between the ages of 18-24 registered and voted, Kerry would probably win in a landslide. Or not. But at least we'd know what the 18-24 are up to. And women. Women could sway this election very easily. Either of these groups could change a red state to a blue state.

Look at your local and state races and help out where and when you can. (Don't wait until election day to look at your campaign guide or look up candidates on their websites. Local elections often have more impact on your day to day life—and the environment—than the presidential race. Education yourself.) Give your time or money. Put signs on your lawn and in your windows. Write letters. Help people register to vote. Do whatever you have the ability to do.

Stay grounded. We live in interesting times. We can either think of that as a curse or an exciting challenge. (OK, I suppose we could think of it as both, but you know what I mean.)

Go out there and preach, brothers and sisters. It's your world. Welcome to it! 0 comments
