In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

A Reasonable Exchange Please!

My friend Linda believes everything happens for a reason. I don't. Sometimes shit just happens. Period. But Linda and I agree to disagree. In fact, we have a bargain. I won't correct her every time she calls something a "he." "Look at that bird, isn't he pretty? Did you see that ant? How'd he get to be so big." "Linda, all the ants you see are female. All the worker ants..." And she won't tell me everything happens for a reason. But when I was talking about my latest bout of poison oak and my swelling hand, Linda said, “Think of it as a gift.” Ordinarily I would argue with her. But I thought, what the hell. I mean, Linda has metastasized breast cancer. If she wants to believe these things are a gift, who am I to try to convince her otherwise? Maybe she’s right. So finally, after all the years Linda and I have been friends and have discussed this issue, I didn't resist. Instead, I said, "OK, it's a gift. Could you point me to the gift exchange department please?" 0 comments
