In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Garrison Keillor Speaks Out

Those of you who read this weblog know that I don't hate Republicans. In fact, I long for the good ol' Republicans—those who believed in fiscal responsibility and making sure the government kept its nose out of our boudoirs (among other places). Where have they gone? They've been overrun by neocons and others who think their religion is the only religion, and they're going to force it and their beliefs down our throats like the good fascists they are. I'm saying, "Come back, Republicans. We need you." (Economically I hold many old time conservative views; socially I'm very liberal—up to a point. I don't believe the government should force things on us that they believe are for the public good: i.e. eminent domain, pesticide spraying, fluoride in the water, etc.) Anyway, for those of you who have been looking for someone in the media with a different view of the Bush administration—someone your conservative relatives might admire—check out this piece by Garrison Keillor.

I haven't watched TV in days, so I don't know if the mainstream media covered the demonstrations in New York, which were sponsored by United for Peace and Justice. They were massive and peaceful. Most reports put the numbers at 500,000 (although earlier reports say between 250,000 and 400,000—whatever the numbers, it was huge)! The ways of protesting were myriad, creative, standard, and inspiring.. Starhawk is there and updating nearly daily. Click here and scroll down to "what's new," to read all the updates. Michael Moore was at the head of the march along with Jesse Jackson and others. This link to his site has lots of great photos and more. Enjoy! 0 comments
