In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Family

Have you heard about the father and daughter found living in Forest Park in Portland? They had been living in the heavily forested park for four years. A jogger found them and reported it to the police. The story appears to have a "happy" ending. The police didn't turn them over to the state or split them up. Although it looks like they were perfectly contented living in the forest, they are now living on a farm, in a trailer, with electricity and heat, and the father has a job of sorts. Thanks for the link, Mario.

Bernadette sent me a link to a piece in the Guardian by Michael Berg, the father of Nick Berg who was murdered in Iraq. He is angry at the death of his son, but he is furious at the Bush administration. And he asks the question we should all be asking: why does the U.S. continue to threaten the world with its brand of "peace?" Why don't we listen to the rest of the world instead of threatening it? I'm wondering why this piece is in a British newspaper and not in an American one? Would no one else publish it?

May You Walk in Beauty.
