In times of old, The Furies protected Mother Right. If a mother (or any woman) was harmed, The Furies swooped down and took their vengeance. They were one of the last vestiges of a world that existed before the patriarchy. When we feel righteous anger, it is The Furies who are calling out to us to make what is wrong right again.

Happy Anniversary!

Thirty-one years ago today the Supreme Court recognized a woman's right to choose abortion. Only thirty-one years ago we stepped out of the dark ages to have legal control over our reproductive rights. If I had had the misfortune to get pregnant when I was sixteen or seventeen years old, I would not have been able to get a legal abortion. I've linked some sites with articles and personal stories about this issue. In this piece, a woman was tired of people implying she should feel shame for having an abortion, so she started I'mNotSorry.net, a website "celebrating the right to choose." (Remember, Bush has taken his religious beliefs overseas and still refuses much needed aid to clinics unless they follow the "gag" rule and don't mention abortion and/or family planning options.)

Whether you've had an abortion, have chosen not to have children, or have birthed a baby, congratulations! At least you had legal and safe options on what you wanted to do with your body. Wouldn't it be great if women all over the planet had the same choices?

Blessed be. 0 comments
